  Traditional rulers in Kogi State have commended the Independent National Electoral Commission, security agencies and other stakeholders for the peaceful and credible conduct of the governorship election, which held in the state last Saturday. They congratulated the Governor-elect, Usman Ododo and affirmed the traditional institutions' commitment to continued collaboration with the Kogi State Government to enhance the unity and development achieved under the current administration. The monarchs spoke when they paid a congratulatory visit to the Governor of Kogi State, His Excellency Yahaya Bello, CON, at his GRA residence, in Okene, on Tuesday.   Kogi State Governor, Yahaya Bello, has expressed his heartfelt appreciation to his wife, Amina Bello, for spearheading the reconstruction of a fully equipped clinic and school for the Eika-Ohizenyi community in Okehi Local Government Area. Mrs Bello, the founder of the Hayat Foundation, unveiled the reconstruction projects on Monday.  During the inauguration of the projects, Governor Bello issued a challenge to other privileged citizens, urging them to contribute their resources to foster community development. The projects were unveiled to commemorate the 16th birthday of the Governor's son, Hayatula Bello, in whose name the Hayat Foundation was established. The projects include the Eika-Ohizenyi community clinic and the Al-Dabiya Primary and Secondary School, both located within the community. Peter Ekemezie, a lecturer at the Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka, has been jailed. He was sentenced to six months imprisonment for publishing defamatory statements against one Prof. Alex Asigbo. Ekemezie, convicted on three counts of charges bordering on forgery and defamation, was given an option of a N300,000 fine. Delivering the judgment at an Awka Magistrates’ court, His Worship, E.C. Chukwu noted that he considered that the defendant had spent one month in a psychiatric home and four months in a Correctional Centre.  Prof. Asigbo had told the court that Ekemezie forged his signature when he refused to give him (Ekemezie) a witness statement but instead advised him to procure a subpoena. Asigbo said this led to Ekemezie writing and publishing a series of defamatory statements against him on Facebook and other social media platforms.
